Explanation of the Connectwise / Database Folder Synchronization Within Secret Server

Connectwise / Database Folder Synchronization

The folder synchronization feature will create Secret Server folders based on the data in your ConnectWise instance. You will need access to the ConnectWise database from your SecretServer web application. To setup, you will enter the connection information and the synchronization will automatically create a folder to match the customers/companies in ConnectWise. With the ongoing sync if a new customer is added or existing one is moved the folder in SecretServer will also move to match the FolderTree coming from the ConnectWise view.

Another useful feature would be linking to a folder by passing the foldername in the query string. See this KnowledgeBase article for information:
http://support.thycotic.com/KB/a44/searching-inside-folders-using-query-string-parameters.aspx?KBSearchID=0

This allows you to link to a connectwise company in Secret Server. For example you add a company (ABC-Company) to ConnectWise. With folder synchronization turned on a folder in SecretServer will be created (folder ABC-Company). Then you have a link on your website or connectwise page that points to:

https//<yoursecretserver.com>/home.aspx?folder=ABC-Company&searchsubfolders=true
Clicking this link will open your Secret Server to the ABC Company folder where all the secrets for that ConnectWIse company can be viewed and created.

Note: Since Folder Synchronization can create a lot of folders based on your ConnectWise instance, it is best to try different custom views in a test environment before going to production. See this article for more information on creating a custom view:
