Always back up your encryption.config file(s) before making any changes and store them in a secure location.
The encryption.config file must always match the data in the database. This means that all web servers pointing to the database must have identical encryption.config files.
This error may occur when:
- A fresh Secret Server installation is pointed to an existing database.
- An existing Secret Server installation is pointed to a different database.
- A production database is used to overwrite an existing test database or vice-versa
In order to fix this issue, copy the proper encryption.config file over the incorrect one in the web install directory of Secret Server.
