How to send Two Factor Authentication PIN Codes as SMS/TEXT Messages

Secret Server supports sending pin codes via email during the login process to provide Two Factor Authentication. (See the Secret Server User Guide - Email Two Factor Authentication section).

By default this feature only works with email but you can make it send the pin code via SMS by using a specially formatted email address depending on your phone carrier:

Here are the formats for some of the most popular US carriers:
  • AT&T ................   [10 digit number]@txt.att.net
  • Sprint ................   [10 digit number]@messaging.sprintpcs.com
  • T-Mobile ................   [10 digit number]@tmomail.net
  • Verizon ................   [10 digit number]@vtext.com
If your carrier is not listed, please call your carrier to find out if they have a specific email address format to receive SMS messages.

In Secret Server enter in the phone number in one of the above formats as the user's email address (Administration | User | Edit), then enable Email Two Factor Authentication (checkbox) for that user.  Now the pin code will arrive as an SMS text message on their phone when that user logs in.
