Secret Server has the ability to bulk set passwords that can be used to keep Secrets in-sync with each other. From a security perspective, it is recommended that a separate password is used for each account but in some environments it will be useful to have the same password across different machines and accounts.
The ability to change the password on a Secret will require Remote Password Changing being enabled on the Secret's template as well as being enabled in configuration. Since AutoChange typically generates a random password, you will need to ensure AutoChange is not enabled on the accounts you what to keep in sync. To maintain the passwords the user will need to bulk change the passwords from the Home or Dashboard pages.
Steps to Bulk Change Passwords On Accounts
- On the home page (Dashboard or Legacy Home) search for the Secrets you want to change the password for
- Tip: Use a folder to keep the Secrets all together or have some element that allows you to easily group these items together with search
- On the right of each account select the checkboxes of the account you want to change
- In the Bulk Operation drop down list at the bottom of the search grid select "Change Password Remotely"
- On this dialog you can enter the next password into the textbox
- Do not leave the textbox blank or a random password for each account will used which will cause the accounts not to be in-sync
- Click Ok.
The Secrets will immediately be marked for a Password Change that will set the password you choose.
Tip: You can use expiration to indicate to the user when they will need to do the bulk change in the future.
