Installing Password Reset Server Desktop Credential Provider Manually

 

Password Reset Server (PRS) provides a means to install the credential provider through the web admin interface. You may also install the Provider manually by performing the following actions to each workstation which you wish to have remote password resetting capability enabled.

NOTE: You must install the PRS web application first in order to generate some of the required files.

For Windows VISTA (32bit) or Windows 7 (32bit)

·         Copy the following DLL files from <PRS-WebAppPath>\DesktopLoginFiles\x86 into the workstation’s %windir%\System32 directory:

o   DesktopLoginResetPasswordWizardCPP.dll

o   PRSCredentialProvider.dll

o   Thycotic.Usizo.DesktopLogin.dll

·         Copy <PRS-WebAppPath>\DesktopLoginFiles\prs.config into the workstation’s %windir%\System32 directory.

·         Also import the values in <PRS-WebAppPath>\DesktopLoginFiles\Register.reg to the workstation’s registry.

For Windows VISTA (64bit) or Windows 7 (64bit)

·         Copy the following DLL files from <PRS-WebAppPath>\DesktopLoginFiles\IA64 into the workstation’s %windir%\System32 directory:

o   DesktopLoginResetPasswordWizardCPP.dll

o   PRSCredentialProvider.dll

o   Thycotic.Usizo.DesktopLogin.dll

·         Copy <PRS-WebAppPath>\DesktopLoginFiles\prs.config into the workstation’s %windir%\System32 directory.

·         Also import the values in <PRS-WebAppPath>\DesktopLoginFiles\Register.reg to the workstation’s registry.

For Windows XP (32bit)

·         Copy <PRS-WebAppPath>\DesktopLoginFiles\x86\GinaHook.dll into the workstation’s %windir%\System32 directory.

·         Copy <PRS-WebAppPath>\DesktopLoginFiles\ prsconfiginfo.config into the workstation’s %windir%\System32 directory.

·         Also import the values in <PRS-WebAppPath>\DesktopLoginFiles\RegisterXP.reg to the workstation’s registry.

For Windows XP (64bit)

·         Copy <PRS-WebAppPath>\DesktopLoginFiles\x86\GinaHook.dll into the workstation’s %windir%\System32 directory.

·         Copy <PRS-WebAppPath>\DesktopLoginFiles\ prsconfiginfo.config into the workstation’s %windir%\System32 directory.

·         Also import the values in <PRS-WebAppPath>\DesktopLoginFiles\RegisterXP.reg to the workstation’s registry.

 


Uninstalling Password Reset Server Desktop Credential Provider Manually

 

Password Reset Server (PRS) provides a means to uninstall the credential provider through the web admin interface. You may also uninstall the Provider manually for each workstation.

 

For Windows VISTA or Windows 7

·         Remove the following key from the workstation’s registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\Credential Providers\{b84ca702-35a8-4e67-8d2a-6c2807b297d3}.

·         Or you can run <PRS-WebAppPath>\DesktopLoginFiles\Unregister.reg locally on the workstation.

 

For Windows VISTA XP (32bit)

·         Remove GinaDll entry from the workstation’s registry located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

·         Or you can run <PRS-WebAppPath>\DesktopLoginFiles\UnregisterXP.reg locally on the workstation.

 

For Windows VISTA XP (64bit)

·         Remove GinaDll entry from the workstation’s registry located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

·         Or you can run <PRS-WebAppPath>\DesktopLoginFiles\UnregisterXP.reg locally on the workstation.
