Secret Server requires the follow permissions to run:
- During installation, Secret Server will need write access to the entire directory where it is located. The user that needs write access depends on your environment:
- Windows XP Professional (IIS 5.1): ASPNET
- Windows XP Professional x64 / ia64 Edition (IIS 6.0): NETWORK SERVICE
- Windows Server 2003 (all editions): NETWORK SERVICE
- Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 (IIS 7.0): NETWORK SERVICE
- Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 (IIS 7.5): NETWORK SERVICE (note that beta operating systems are not supported by technical support)
If you have the ASPNET Service to run as a different user, then you must use that user. During installation, you can also impersonate to do the install.
Once the installation is complete, the permissions can be changed back to read.
- During Upgrades to new versions, the upgrade process will require write permission again.
- The SQL user needs read and write access to the database Secret Server will use specified during installation. It does not need DBO permissions or access to Stored Procs.
- Secret Server must be configured as an Application in IIS. For execution permissions, it requires "scripts only"
